Teen Volunteers Needed for Safety Town!

Do you enjoy being around young children? Are you dependable, responsible, friendly, and looking for a way to give back to your community? Safety Town is seeking teen volunteers for Summer 2026! This is a great opportunity to earn community service hours for A+ requirements or scholarship applications while making a positive impact.

Teens who wish to volunteer must meet the following requirements:

  • Must have completed 7th grade

  • Register online at www.stjoesafetycouncil.org

  • Provide two references (teacher, counselor, supervisor, etc.)

  • Have parent/guardian approval

  • Attend mandatory volunteer orientation/training on
    June 1st from 11:00am–2:00pm or June 8th from 2:00pm–5:00pm

2026 Safety Town Session Dates:

  • Session 1: June 15–18

  • Session 2: June 22–25

  • Session 3: June 29–July 3

  • Session 4: July 6–9

Safety Town Volunteer Training Sessions

1. Introduction to Safety Town

  • Overview of the program’s mission and goals

  • The importance of teaching young children safety skills

2. Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Role of volunteers in assisting instructors and children

  • Expectations for behavior, attendance, and professionalism

  • Code of conduct

3. Daily Schedule & Activities

  • Breakdown of typical daily lessons and safety topics (e.g., pedestrian safety, fire safety, stranger danger, bike safety)

  • Hands-on activities and interactive learning sessions

4. Working with Young Children

  • Effective communication with children

  • How to engage kids in activities while ensuring safety and discipline

5. Safety Procedures & Emergency Protocols

  • What to do in case of an emergency (fire drill, medical emergency, lost child)

  • First aid basics and when to seek help

6. Dress Code

  • Proper attire for volunteers

7. Q&A and Final Reminders

  • Open discussion for questions
