TRAFFIC SAFETY PROGRAMS

A total of 22,697 drivers and passengers in passenger vehicles died in motor vehicle crashes in 2018.

More than half of teens (13-19 years) and adults aged 20-44 years who died in crashes in 2018 were not buckled up at the time of the crash.

Excessive speed remains the greatest cause for fatal traffic crashes, but distracted driving, including texting, talking on a cell phone, and fatigue are quickly catching up.

The Safety Council offers programs that are meant to educate and promote traffic safety, including improvement of driving skills, making better choices behind the wheel, proper use of seat belts and child safety seats, and bicycle helmet use.
